Wild Moment: Meirion Tanner

A poem inspired by a beautiful woodland below Coombes Edge near Charlesworth in Derbyshire

The Surrender of Trees

I am, in fact, as still, as open, as unendingly vulnerable as these trees.  Stationary, stretched upwards like a prodigal reaching for salvation.

The same God that is in them is in me.

The same air that passes through them passes through me.

They consent entirely to this place, with all the constraints, imperfections and boundless freedoms of it.

And in their absolute and utter submission to this one, singular point on earth, they stir my own memory of who I am.

And remind me that all I ever really want is to be still, and surrender to this one, singular moment.
