Keeping It Wild in London

The John Muir Trust has joined forces with London Wildlife TrustHeadliners and London Youth to get young Londoners involved with nature conservation and improve the diversity of people involved in the natural heritage sector.

Keeping It Wild is one of 12 selected projects funded through the Kick the Dust National Lottery Heritage Fund, designed to enable young people to shake up heritage.

Between 2018 and 2021 it will work with hundreds of young people from groups currently underrepresented in nature conservation through different activity strands. There will be a chance for participants to achieve a John Muir Award through all of them.

Wild Action Days and Wild Action Programmes are delivered across nature reserves managed by London Wildlife Trust over a series of sessions giving young people from local organisations hands-on experiences in nature and a chance to learn about themselves with the guidance of London Wildlife Trust leaders.

Social Action Programmes are being led by London Youth who will support youth clubs across the capital to pitch, design, plan, implement and reflect on community-based projects that make a real difference for wildlife in their local area.

Young people can join the Young People’s Forum and have their voices heard at every level of the London Wildlife Trust, as well as feeding into development of John Muir Award resources and the implementation of the overall project.

Traineeships are advertised every quarter for young people aged 18-25 to take on a paid placement at London Wildlife Trust, getting vital and unique work experience to build their career in the sector.
