This spring Perth's AK Bell Library is hosting a Munro Legacy exhibition to mark the centenary of the death of Hugh Munro, who listed all the mountains over 3,000 feet in height in Scotland.

This list of 'Munros' eventually provided the incentive for many people to climb them and develop a love of the mountains. One hundred years on, well over 6,000 people have climbed all the Munros.

The Munro Legacy exhibition, arranged by The Munro Society, will feature early photos of Munro and his contemporaries plus old maps and artifacts, a brief history of “Munro’s Tables”, the early “compleaters”, a review of how the numbers compleating the Munros has increased over the years, and the threats that affect the mountain landscapes today from industrial scale developments, footpath erosion etc.

Where: A K Bell Library, York Place, Perth PH2 8EP during library opening hours

When: 5 March to 18 May 2019
