Field Notes: Summer's guided walks season draws to a close

Our North West Scotland conservation teams are nearing the end of their 2019 guided walk programme but there are still some dates availablePolin seashore walk

Carrie and Don at Sandwood and Romany on Quinag have shared some photographs of their recent guided walks to give you a flavour of what went on. If you like what you see, check out our list of up-coming walks at Sandwood and Quinag.

Carrie and Don took a group out for a seashore walk along Polin at Sandwood (pictured top) while Romany took a group on a map and compass skills guided walk in early August (below).

Romany said her Quinag walk was a great success. “It was a fine sunny day with people coming from as far as Brora and Ullapool. We covered how to estimate distances, map features, reading contours, compass use and taking a bearing.

“We had a break for lunch and shared stories of navigation mistakes that have happened to us.

“There is a lot to learn with map reading skills but after practicing together and learning a few tips; people will hopefully be encouraged to experiment and give it a go when out and about.”
