The case for equal rights of appeal in the planning system

The Trust is backing a campaign for Equal Rights of Appeal because it is concerned about fair decision making in the planning process

The campaign group Planning Democracy has petitioned the Scottish Government to introduce ‘Equal Rights of Appeal’ to create a level playing field between developers on the one side, and local communities and environmental groups on the other.

Our previous Head of Policy Helen McDade, a Board member of Planning Democracy, gave evidence to the Scottish Parliament's Public Petitions Committee in November 2014, alongside Clare Symonds, Chair of Planning Democracy. More recently, the petition was referred to the Local Government & Regeneration Committee for further consideration.

In March 2015 we expressed concern about the planning process in an open letter to the Scottish Government, along with eight other organisations.
