The John Muir Award encourages participants to:

  • Discover wild places - developing a deeper connection to the natural world

  • Explore wild place/s with a sense of curiosity, observing the natural processes taking place and improving their understanding  

  • Conserve their wild place/s - taking direct positive action to care and protect wild places 

  • Share their experiences in ways that are meaningful to them 

These Four Challenges lie at the heart of every John Muir Award experience. 

Spending time completing the John Muir Award often leads to greater confidence and resilience, new skills and experiences, stronger connections with the natural world, improved wellbeing and a real sense of achievement and purpose.
