Wild Moment: Maggie Bartlett

Maggie's poem shares the joy of wild swimming with a new generation.

In a Lochan with Emily

The mountain’s bowl of water calls to me.
I feel the cold as I step in
and hesitate when it gets thigh high,
but then I launch myself and slowly feel
calm in the still water.

Mummy, she shouts, I’m coming in!
I hold her, wriggly as a fish,
feet braced against the stony bed,
to hold us firm and keep her safe.
It’s deep, she says, and brown like tea,
what’s down there, Mummy,
please don’t let me go.
