Trust response to Community Wealth Building proposals

Community Wealth Building is a concept that has been in practice in Scotland for a number of years and is recognised by the Scottish Government as one of the practical ways to realise a wellbeing economy.

In its 2022-23 Programme for Government the Scottish Government committed to consulting the public on plans for Community Wealth Building legislation and at the end of January 2023 shared its consultation paper.

The paper explains the 'five pillars' of Community Wealth Building and outlines propsals that would create new legal duties intended to root Community Wealth Building into government and/or public sector plans and actions.

We have provided feedback on the duty to advance Community Wealth Building and three of the five pillars, namely 'land and property', 'inclusive ownership' and 'finance'. These each relate to the Trust's work as a landowner, manager and an eNGO advocacting for the freedom of nature alongside thriving communities.
