Wild Moment: Ben Nichols

Suffolk-based photographer and Trust member Ben Nichols loves to capture the mountains, lochs and wilderness of Scotland.

Ben Nichols from Ben Nevis

They say an image speaks a thousand words…  I suffer with a condition called Fybromyalgia and travelling the 550 miles north for my photography is an extra challenge for me. My body simply doesn't like it. However, the joy I get from my resulting images and the adventures I have capturing them makes the effort well worthwhile.

I based myself on the Dalness Estate for a recent trip. I wanted to photograph the area around Glen Etive and was after a specific image from Ben Starav looking north over Glen Etive.

When the wind was predicted to drop, I took my brother up Ben Nevis for the first time. He too suffers like me. This image was taken as we descended. It caught my eye as the clouds had opened up to let a little bit of light come through.

Please check out more of my images on my website. I hope they will inspire others to explore Scotland’s wild areas, just as I was inspired by spending countless hours looking through Colin Prior’s books.
