Landscape scale plan of action

Scottish Biodiversity Strategy Delivery Plan earmarks Trust sites in Knoydart and Nevis for nature restoration.

Li&CD regenerating woodland

The Trust is delighted to hear that land in our care on Knoydart has been included in a list of nine exemplar projects mentioned in the Scottish Government’s recently released Scottish Biodiversity Strategy Delivery Plan.

Our initial proposal with partners — including neighbouring landowners, communities and statutory agencies — has been combined with projects in Morven and Arkaig to create a landscape scale plan that focuses on restoring west coast rainforest and pinewoods.

We are hopeful that being named as an exemplar project will mean that the encouraging signs of nature recovery we are seeing at Li and Coire Dhorrcail — following our work to reduce deer numbers and tackle invasive non-native species like gunnera and rhododendron ponticum — will be amplified across the wider area delivering benefits for biodiversity, climate resilience and communities.

We were also happy to see that our restoration work with the Nevis Landscape Partnership has been included as one of 19 areas of focus in the government's delivery plan and look forward to working with our partners to create a lasting future for wild places.
