Protecting wild places through partnership

How repurposed whisky barrels are helping the John Muir Trust.

Whisky Frames 1

We’re pleased to announce a new partnership between the John Muir Trust and Whisky Frames – a Scottish business creating handcrafted photo frames from reclaimed whisky barrels.

This collaboration offers a new way to support our conservation work while celebrating the preservation of both memories and wild places.

Ten per cent of every frame sold will be donated directly to the John Muir Trust, helping to fund biodiversity, conservation, and habitat restoration projects across the UK. Each frame is made from reclaimed whisky barrels and is unique, shaped by the natural grain of the wood, markings from the barrel hoops, and the character developed over time.

Our John Muir Trust special edition frames are backed with Ancient Muir Tartan from Lochcarron. We chose this tartan not only because of its name, but because the greens and blues reflect the landscapes we work to protect - open skies and wild places.

As charities increasingly work alongside businesses to raise funds and awareness, partnerships like this help the Trust reach new audiences and generate vital income to protect and restore wild places across the UK.

Kristen Hunter, founder of Whisky Frames, said: “Partnering with the John Muir Trust felt like a natural fit for us. Our work is rooted in sustainability and a respect for Scotland’s wild places – values we share with the Trust. Through this collaboration, we’re proud to support their vital work protecting wild places and inspiring more people to connect with nature.”

Partnerships like this provide an important source of funding, helping us continue long-term work to restore habitats and care for the landscapes that depend on them, while also bringing awareness of our work to a wider, global audience.

An unexpected development

During discussions about the collaboration, Kristen kindly offered to create bespoke keyrings featuring the John Muir Trust logo on one side and a small nature-inspired motif on the other.

She generously donated more than 50 keyrings as a product-in-kind contribution, helping to generate additional income to support our conservation work.
