Cloiche wind farm (Stronelairg extensions)

Read the Trust's comments on proposals for a wind farm of 36 turbines which would form an extension to the Stronelairg site.

Proposals for a further wind farm in the Monadhliath mountains to the west of the Cairngorms and south east of Loch Ness have been submitted as a planning application.

You can read the Trust's holding objection and maintained objection below.

UPDATE: On 30 November 2023 Scottish Ministers consented Cloiche Wind Farm. The Trust is deeply disappointed by this decision. We do not believe the significant loss to peatlands within the Monadhliath Mountains is justified. The carbon calculator provides shaky estimates of carbon emissions from excavated peat and planning conditions that are supposed to secure habitat restoration go unchecked. We are seeking to work with others to address these points.
