Scotland’s Third Land Use Strategy

The Trust responds to the Scottish Government’s consultation on its Third Land Use Strategy.

Under the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009 Scottish Ministers have a statutory duty to publish a Land Use Strategy every five years. The first Land Use Strategy was published in 2011, the second in 2016, and now the third is due to be published before the end of March 2021.

The Strategy must set out Scottish Ministers’ objectives in relation to sustainable land use; their proposals and policies for meeting those objectives; and the timescales over which the proposals and policies are expected to take effect. The specific policies and proposals are expected to contribute towards Scotland meeting its net zero emissions target for 2045.

In December 2020 and January 2021 the Scottish Government produced a consultation paper on the Third Land Use Strategy. You can find our response to this paper below.
