Seeking Treasure art exhibition
Visit an exhibition of paintings by Liz Harvey - inspired by shells, leaves and natural forms discovered on Scottish coasts and in local woods - in Pitlochry's Wild Space this October.
Perthshire painter Liz Harvey is passionate about nature and the environment, which provide the inspiration for her work. For her the ultimate connection with nature is beachcombing: "Mooching along an empty beach at low tide, often wrapped up against the cold, feet bravely bare and washed by the water," says Liz.
"Shells, crab claws, fragments of sea-urchin, seaweed; evidence of the wondrous and varied life which continues, against the odds, to survive in the seas around Scotland."
Liz enjoys finding a balance between control and letting pigment and water mediums find their own way, often incorporating materials such as sand, pine needles, or imprints of seashells into her paintings.
The marine treasures or autumn leaves that Liz collects on her walks inspire her paintings. She explains: "This is partly a visual response to the beauty of natural forms and colours and partly a need to communicate the endless variety of nature, which is all around us but is often overlooked.
"Every leaf, every crabshell, seems to me to be a beautiful and precious treasure."
