Denis Mollison

Trustee 2024 - 2027

Denis Mollison

Biography

One of the four founders of the Trust and closely involved for over 30 years in both the ideas and practicalities of the Trust. I was Treasurer when the John Muir Trust took on an overdraft of £75,000 in 1987 for our first purchase, switching to Convenor of the Land Management Committee once the overdraft was cleared and our first employee hired.

I wrote the Trust’s first Management Plan and raised funds for its first Conservation Manager, while helping to recruit a range of advisers and helpers. Later roles in the John Muir Trust included chairing the Policy Committee and the Constitutional Working Group that wrote the current Charitable Purposes of the Trust, and serving on the Finance Committee. I was also involved, to varying degrees, in all the Trust’s land acquisitions.

I was General Secretary and then Chair of the Mountain Bothies Association and still maintain the bothy of Warnscale Head for the MBA. Between 1979 and 2010, I served three five-year terms on the Council of the National Trust for Scotland. I was Chair of the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust from 2013-2018.

My current priorities as a Trustee are to support our aims in exemplary land management, openness and accountability.
