Step Up for Wild Places

Team up. Fundraise. Protect what's wild. Sign up for the ultimate workplace challenge.

Unite your team in a meaningful adventure by choosing one of the UK’s best-loved peaks — Ben Nevis, Schiehallion, Blà Bheinn, or Helvellyn — and collectively ‘climb’ its height in steps during the working day over one or more weeks, all while raising funds for the conservation of Britain’s wild places.

It’s a flexible, feel-good challenge that fits into the working day and can be done during lunch breaks or on commutes - perfect for connecting colleagues, encouraging movement, and supporting a meaningful cause.

At the end of the challenge, your organisation will receive a beautifully designed certificate from the John Muir Trust, featuring your chosen mountain, your organisation’s name, the number of participants, and your fundraising total - a lasting celebration of your team's achievement.

What's involved?

Here are the mountains you can fundraise for, along with the number of steps it takes to climb from base to peak to base. Track your steps and aim for the summit!

How do I take part?

Each participant walks the mountain’s height in steps over a week (or more) - for example, 15,000+ steps spread across lunch breaks and commutes. Track your progress with a phone or pedometer, then log your steps using our custom tracker from the welcome pack.

To keep it manageable, 1,000 steps takes around 10–15 minutes. Even the biggest peaks feel achievable when broken down across the week.
