Our Award is Keeping It Wild in London
HLF funded Kick the Dust project - 'Keeping It Wild' - enables London based participants to achieve our John Muir Award
This autumn saw the John Muir Trust and fellow consortium members of the London Wildlife Trust led and Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) funded Keeping it Wild project launch into action.
Throughout October young people participating through schools, youth clubs and community organisations took part in Wild Action Days organised on London Wildlife Trust nature reserves. Some participants embarked upon Wild Action Programmes, embedding the John Muir Award and practical conservation opportunities into their experiences.
Over the next three years the Keeping It Wild project will increase opportunities for young people in the capital to get to know the wildlife and natural environments on their doorstep. As part of the project, participants working with London Youth, vInspired and Headliners will be offered a chance to achieve a John Muir Award, take part in media training and get involved in a Youth Forum on nature and conservation.
Keeping It Wild Project Manager Emily Morshuis said: “We hope to inspire hundreds of young Londoners to take notice of and care about the world around them, creating a new generation of guardians for the capital’s nature and wildlife...”
