Trust ‘highly commended’ in TGO Campaigner of the Year Award
Trust awarded for its campaigning work following a UK wide public poll
For the third year running, John Muir Trust has won strong recognition for its outdoor campaigning work by online voters across the UK.
After topping the poll for the past two years, the Trust ran the British Mountaineering Council a close second to gain the ‘highly commended’ accolade in Outdoor Campaigner of the Year category of the 2016 TGO Awards.
John Muir Trust board member Chris Townsend also picked up two ‘highly commended’ awards – for Personality of the Year and Book of the Year.
The annual competition is hosted by the leading mountaineering and hillwalking magazine, TGO. The results were announced at The Great Outdoors Awards ceremony, held in the Lake District on 16 November as part of the Kendal Mountain Festival.
The Trust’s Campaigns Officer Mel Nicoll, who accepted the award on behalf of the Trust, thanked all those who voted for the Trust.
“We’re delighted that once again our campaigning work to protect wild land from destructive development has achieved strong recognition from TGO readers, and we’d like to thank all those who took the time to support us in the online poll.
“We’d also congratulate the British Mountaineering Council in winning the 2016 Outdoor Campaigner of the Year title for its Mend Our Mountains campaign which has done some great work generating funding for upland footpaths - an issue that is also close to the our hearts through our own Wild Ways path appeal.
“And we’d like to thank TGO for hosting these Awards year after year, allowing everyone who loves the outdoors to get involved and make their views known.”
