Major transmission line may not go ahead in National Park

North West Coast Connections transmission project "paused"

Beauly denny detail

We contributed to the consultation process surrounding a proposed new electricity transmission line in Cumbria since 2014. We had expressed concern about the potential impacts of the proposals for connecting and exporting electricity from the proposed Moorside nuclear power station in Cumbria and the power generated by new energy projects in the North West.

We were concerned these proposals would impact on nationally designated landscapes including the Lake District National Park and supported Friends of the Lake District's campaign to raise awareness of this.

National Grid has now announced that they have "paused" the project due to the nuclear project being "paused." The Trust is pleased that no work is being progressed unnecessarily and will continue to keep a watching brief.
