Funding announced for undergrounding electricity distribution lines
Mitigating the environmental impacts of electricity distribution lines.
The Trust has been participating in an Ofgem-led working group, alongside other landscape NGOs and interested parties, about mitigating the environmental impacts of electricity distribution lines. We are pleased to report a positive outcome.
Ofgem, the government regulator for the electricity and gas markets, recently announced that it is allowing £103 million to be spent over eight years to cover the undergrounding of distribution lines in National Parks, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and, for the first time, Scotland’s National Scenic Areas. This is really significant as it extends the reach of the fund to more of our wild landscapes.
