Scotland’s First Minister opens new route across central Scotland.

The John Muir Way was officially opened at noon today, John Muir Day, by Alex Salmond, Scotland’s First Minister.

The 134 mile (215 km) route crosses the country from the west at Helensburgh, passing Loch Lomond, the Falkirk Wheel, Linlithgow, Edinburgh, North Berwick and finishing at Muir’s birthplace in Dunbar.

The John Muir Way was created by Central Scotland Green Network and Scottish Natural Heritage. Divided into 10 sections, the route can be completed in shorter walks or by cycling.
